HPMC Vegetarian Capsules
In short: Masticlife mastic capsules use HPMC (hypromellose) capsules — clear, plant-derived vegan capsules with no preservatives and no sugar, corn, wheat or soy. They are a clean vegetarian alternative to gelatin, chosen to match the purity of natural Chios mastic.

What does HPMC mean?
Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose — also known as “hypromellose” — is a plant-derived material. HPMC capsules are made from it, contain no animal ingredients, and are widely used as a safe, vegetarian alternative to gelatin capsules.
Why Masticlife uses HPMC capsules
Because mastic is a purely natural product, we chose the HPMC vegan-standard capsule to hold our mastic gum powder. Every Masticlife capsule is therefore vegan: plant-derived, with no preservatives and no sugar, corn, wheat or soy.

How to swallow a mastic capsule easily
- Take a sip of water to moisten your mouth.
- Place the mastic gum capsule on the centre of your tongue.
- Take a big sip of water.
- Swallow the capsule.
- Take a few more sips of water to help it move down smoothly.
For best results, take mastic capsules on an empty stomach, about 30 minutes before meals.

Can I open the mastic gum capsule and swallow only the powder?
Yes — there is no problem opening the capsules. Mastic is a natural substance, the resin of the mastic tree. If you find capsules hard to swallow, tip the mastic powder onto a spoon and take it with a few sips of water, or stir it into a glass of water and drink.
Does mastic gum dissolve in water?
No. Mastic is a resin, so it does not dissolve in water.
Does inulin dissolve in water?
Yes, inulin dissolves in water.
How long does it take for the HPMC capsule to dissolve in the stomach?
After about 5–10 minutes, the HPMC capsule begins to soften and disintegrate in the stomach.
What should I do if I have trouble swallowing capsules?
Choose Mastic Comfort sachets, where the mastic powder is taken directly or with a spoon — no capsule to swallow.
Clean, vegan, single-ingredient mastic in an easy-to-take capsule — ready when you are.
