In short: after a successful appearance the previous year, Chios mastic returned to Vitafoods Europe 2025 in Barcelona (20–22 May) — this time with the spotlight on Chios mastic oil, shown as an innovation in the New Products Zone at booth 4J71.
What is Chios mastic oil?
It's a 100% natural essential oil obtained by steam distillation of the resin of the Pistacia lentiscus var. Chia tree. It contains bioactive compounds such as α-pinene, β-myrcene and linalool, and is increasingly the subject of scientific research. Learn more in what is mastic oil.
Why the oil?
For this edition, the Chios Mastiha Growers Association (EMX) chose to highlight the oil form of mastic. Thanks to its concentrated active compounds, it's attracting growing attention in research and product development.
At Vitafoods
Chios mastic oil was showcased as an innovation in the New Products Zone. At booth 4J71, visitors could learn about the oil, the current research, applications in dietary supplements, and traditional production with Chios PDO certification.
