Pure Mastic Gum Is The Best
Ondřej DvořákIn short: "pure" mastic gum means 100% Chios mastic resin with no fillers or additives — so you get the resin itself, not bulking agents. It comes only from the island of Chios, has a distinctive pine-citrus aroma, and as a food supplement it contributes to the normal function of the digestive system.
Pure mastic gum, the resin of the mastic tree (Pistacia lentiscus var. Chia), has been valued for centuries for its unique flavour and its place in Mediterranean culture. Below is what makes it special — and why pure, additive-free mastic is the best choice.

The "tears of Chios"
Mastic gum, also known as the "tears of Chios", comes primarily from the Greek island of Chios, where the mastic tree thrives thanks to the island's specific climate and soil. Harvesting is meticulous: precise incisions in the bark release the resin, which solidifies into transparent droplets — the tears.
Aroma, taste & cooking
Pure mastic has a unique aroma and flavour — earthy and pine-like with a hint of citrus and herbs, refreshing and slightly bittersweet. That's why it's a prized ingredient in Mediterranean cooking, from desserts like Turkish delight and Greek spoon sweets to savoury soups, sauces and meats. It adds a subtle taste that lifts a recipe.
Traditional uses & as a supplement
Mastic has been used since ancient times in cooking and traditional household care, and has long been associated with digestion and fresh breath. As a modern food supplement, mastic gum contributes to the normal function of the digestive system. Regular chewing of raw mastic also gives the jaw muscles a workout.
Mastic oil is popular in oral and skin care too — you'll find it in toothpastes, mouthwashes, soaps and creams.
Recognised by UNESCO
Culturally, mastic carries deep roots in the traditions of the Mediterranean and is a symbol of Chios. Read more about mastic gum in UNESCO.
